Seventeen. Most bands do not get to seventeen albums. Most bands do not get to five.
Dream Theater just posted a photo of all five guys back at Ytse Jam Studios with a short note saying album 17 is underway. That is the whole announcement, and honestly that is all it needed to be.
The last one, Parasomnia, came out in February 2025. It was the first record with Mike Portnoy back behind the kit after he returned in 2023, and it did not sound like a nostalgia trip. It sounded like a band with something to prove.

Now they are doing it again. No title yet, no date yet, just five guys in a room starting the next one. James LaBrie talked earlier this year about how this band starts a record by figuring out where everybody is in life and what the next chapter should say. Sounds like that conversation went well.
I will be over here waiting for the first song with a running time I need a calculator for.
