Kendrick and SZA just set the bar for every stadium tour this year

50 songs, nine acts, three hours in Minneapolis. The Grand National Tour kicked off with live debuts, Drake jabs, and a Buick GNX rising from under the stage.

The Grand National Tour is here, and Minneapolis got the single most loaded setlist of the year so far. Kendrick Lamar and SZA, fresh off the Super Bowl halftime show, opened their co-headline stadium run last night at U.S. Bank Stadium with nearly three hours and more than 50 songs.

Kendrick came up from beneath the stage sitting in a Buick GNX and went straight into wacced out murals. The GNX material got its live debut: hey now, dodger blue, reincarnated. SZA answered with first time performances of her own Lana cuts: 30 for 30, Scorsese Baby Daddy, Kitchen, BMF. They traded the stage all night in nine acts, solo runs and joint moments, closing it together with Luther and Gloria.

And yes, the Drake stuff was all there. Euphoria. Not Like Us, introduced by a pre-recorded video that looked an awful lot like a deposition. Poetic Justice, which is funny for reasons you already know. Mustard opened the night with a DJ set, because of course he did.

Next stop Houston on Wednesday, then 30 plus more across North America and Europe. The victory lap is officially underway.
