Port Charlotte stole New Year's Eve: Nelly, Lil Jon, Godsmack and Randy Houser take over the fairgrounds

The Southwest Florida New Year's Rockin Eve takes over the Charlotte County Fairgrounds on December 31 with Nelly, Lil Jon, Godsmack and Randy Houser on two stages, running 2 PM to 2 AM.

Port Charlotte just stole New Year's Eve. The Southwest Florida New Year's Rockin Eve takes over the Charlotte County Fairgrounds on Thursday, December 31, running two stages for 12 straight hours, 2 in the afternoon to 2 in the morning. The headliners are Nelly, Lil Jon, Godsmack and Randy Houser. Four heavy hitters, one fairgrounds, and the clock hits midnight somewhere in the middle of all that noise.

Gates open at 2 PM with regional talent warming up both stages, and the headliners start at 4. That means the party is already rolling while most New Year's Eve plans are still group texts. Get there early. The early sets are where you catch the act your friends will swear they discovered before anybody else.

Nelly has been packing rooms since Country Grammar dropped in 2000, and the run since then is just unfair: Ride Wit Me, Hot in Herre, Dilemma, Just a Dream. He works a stage like the headline slot has to be earned again every single night. Lil Jon is a different kind of weather. Crunk was built in clubs, but it was born for a fairgrounds at midnight, thousands of people shouting back at one man with a microphone. You'll lose your voice by January 1. Plan accordingly.

“Twelve hours, two stages, four headliners, one midnight.”

Godsmack brings the heavy. Sully Erna has fronted the band since the 90s, and Whatever, I Stand Alone and Voodoo still hit as hard as they did the first time you heard them on the radio. Randy Houser rounds out the bill with the country muscle: How Country Feels and Runnin' Outta Moonlight were written for big choruses on cold nights, sung back louder than the PA.

This one is home turf for us. Moe Train's Tracks is based right here in Southwest Florida, a short drive from those fairgrounds, and we cover shows the way they actually feel from inside them: in the crowd, in the dust, talking to the family that drove in from Fort Myers and the crew that's had this date circled since the lineup dropped. We'll be on the ground in Port Charlotte all day and all night, cameras out, catching the sets and the stories happening between them.

The fairgrounds sit at 2333 El Jobean Road in Port Charlotte, and tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite. Twelve hours, two stages, four headliners, one midnight. If your New Year's Eve plan in Southwest Florida doesn't end at the Charlotte County Fairgrounds, it ends in second place.
