As I Lay Dying dropped The Cost To Stay and the rebuild is real

New single The Cost To Stay is out with a Tom Flynn directed video, the self-titled album lands February 5, 2027, and the rebuilt lineup tours North America twice.

As I Lay Dying just dropped The Cost To Stay, and this one is not background music. This is grab the wheel with both hands music. It is the latest single off their self-titled album, due February 5, 2027 on Napalm Records, and the official video, directed by Tom Flynn, is out right now.

Tim Lambesis says the song is about a hard realization: the life you are working so hard to hold together might be the exact thing you need to walk away from. He has talked about mixing up endurance with strength, holding on until it cost him pieces of himself. That is heavy stuff, and the song sounds like it. No hiding behind the riffs on this one, even though these riffs could hide a small building.

This follows the two September singles, and the split personality is the point. Polarized leans melodic and big. Retribution goes darker and faster and tries to take your head off. The band says most of the record lives somewhere between those two, which is a fun neighborhood if you like your metalcore with melody in one hand and a brick in the other. The two songs even got a physical vinyl single release, because some of us still like holding the music.

“This is grab the wheel with both hands music.”

The rebuild behind this record is real. Lambesis is the last founding member standing after four members walked in late 2024, and the 2026 lineup is Chris Clancy on bass and vocals, Don Vedda and Bill Hudson on guitars, and Tim Yeung on drums. Clancy and Lambesis produced the record together. Ten tracks, with CJ McCreery of Immortal Disfigurement guesting on No Way Out. A band naming an album after itself this far into its run is making a statement, and they know it.

You can hear it live soon. The band closes out its Shadows Are Security run across North America in November and December with The Curse Within, then comes back in February and March with Immortal Disfigurement to play the new record. Grammy nominated, a million albums sold, Top 10 records on the board, and still swinging like they have something to prove. Watch the video. Then watch it again louder.
