Fifty years. Let that sit for a second.
Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny turns fifty this year, and the original 1976 masters are getting the treatment this record deserves. Out today, October 9, on Exciter Records: the album restored from the original analogue master tapes, put back in the band's intended running order starting with Prelude.
The vinyl is a thing of beauty. Hand:
poured Solar Flare wax, every copy unique. The CD comes in a jewel case with liner notes from Bryan Reesman and unseen archival photos, plus a bonus track: the original 1976 recording of Diamonds and Rust, cut during these sessions and left off the original album.
And they are not stopping there. A second edition, Remixed and Remastered, hits in November. Fresh mix from the original multitracks, produced by Tom Allom, on 45 RPM 180-gram double vinyl. Both editions are streaming now, so there is no excuse.
Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, KK Downing, Ian Hill, Alan Moore. Victim of Changes. The Ripper. The record that gave metal its blueprint is fifty, and it still hits like day one.
