Forty years. Meshuggah has been bending rhythm into shapes that should be illegal for four decades, and they are celebrating with the kind of North American run that makes your calendar nervous. The Forty-Year Anomaly Tour is official, with Testament and Blood Incantation riding along, and Florida, we are on the map twice.

The run opens February 12 in Toronto at Coca-Cola Coliseum and closes May 14 at Milwaukee Metal Fest, with a break in the middle and a whole lot of damage in between. Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Boston. Then the West: Vancouver, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Oakland, Inglewood, plus the band's first ever show at Red Rocks on April 21. A Meshuggah debut at Red Rocks. Those rocks have stood there for millions of years and they still are not ready.
“Meshuggah is selling a math problem at full volume, and I mean that as the highest praise I own.”

Florida gets May 8 at Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, then a headline stop May 9 at the War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale. After that the tour hits Sonic Temple in Columbus on May 13 and Milwaukee Metal Fest the next night to close it out. Three festivals in the final week, because subtlety was never the brand.
Some history, because the resume is absurd. These five guys out of Umea, Sweden rewired what heavy music could do with Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, and Nothing. Future Breed Machine, Rational Gaze, Bleed. A Grammy nomination in 2018 for Clockworks. Their last record, Immutable, from 2022, topped the UK Rock and Metal Albums chart and the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart. Entire generations of guitar players have built careers trying to count what Meshuggah plays for fun.
Tickets go on sale Friday, October 30 at 10 am local time, and the artist presale is already moving. Forty years in, most bands are selling nostalgia. Meshuggah is selling a math problem at full volume, and I mean that as the highest praise I own.
