Wacken 2026: 85,000 metalheads, perfect weather, and two final goodbyes

Sold out 35th anniversary with 85,000 metalheads, sunshine on the Holy Ground, and final shows from Running Wild and Sepultura.

Eighty five thousand people. Sunshine. In Wacken. If you know, you know how rare that sentence is.

The 35th anniversary is in the books and it went about as well as a metal festival can go. Def Leppard finally played the Holy Ground, Judas Priest did what Judas Priest does, and Powerwolf and Sabaton held down the headliner slots. Over 200 acts across nine stages.

Two moments are going to live forever. Running Wild played their very last show ever. Sepultura played their last show in Germany ever. That is a lot of goodbye for one weekend, and you know the crowd gave them the sendoff they deserved.

The Metal Battle had its biggest year too, 31 countries, with Force from Chile winning both the jury and the crowd vote. The next generation is fine.

Sunshine, sold out, and 35 years of the Holy Ground. Party on indeed.
