William Shatner made a heavy metal album and 50 musicians volunteered

At 95, William Shatner has recorded a heavy metal album called What The F Is Heavy Metal?, with Brian May, Rob Halford, and Dave Lombardo among about 50 guests. The first single lands this winter.

I need you to sit down for this one. William Shatner, 95 years old, has recorded a heavy metal album. It is called What The F Is Heavy Metal?, which was his actual reply when Cleopatra Records suggested the idea. The question became the title. Perfect. No notes.

Shatner told Fox News the record has been laid down, every track, scratch vocals and all. The label plan was six originals and six covers. He wrote the originals with longtime writing partner Rob Sharenow. The title track single lands this winter, and the album is tentatively due in 2027 on Cleopatra Records.

“Halford and Lombardo on a Shatner record. Say that sentence at a metal show and watch heads turn.”

Now the guest list, because this is where it goes fully off the rails in the best way. About 50 musicians volunteered, and the named ones include Brian May of Queen, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Dave Lombardo of Slayer, and John Moyer of Disturbed. Halford and Lombardo on a Shatner record. Say that sentence at a metal show and watch heads turn.

He already road-tested the thing live at Riot Fest in Chicago on September 20 with his band The Uckers, playing Enter Sandman, Crazy Train, and Ace Of Spades. Captain Kirk doing Motorhead at Riot Fest. This man is 95 and out there collecting genres like side quests. First single this winter. I will be first in line, and I will not be apologizing for it.
