Dave Grohl took a tumble on the runway early in the night in Brisbane on Thursday. Then he got up and played 26 songs. That is the most Foo Fighters sentence ever written, and it was only the start of the night.

Suncorp Stadium got the first show of the Australian stadium run, with Mini Skirt and Full Flower Moon Band warming up the room. The Foos opened with All My Life, The Pretender, and Times Like These, back to back to back. No slow build. No easing in. Straight to the deep end.
The middle of the set is where it got fun. No Son Of Mine detoured into a piece of Ace Of Spades by Motorhead, because why not. Then the band moved to a second stage for an acoustic run of Wheels, Marigold, Window, Big Me, and Under You. During the band introductions back on the main stage, Grohl jumped behind the drums while drummer Ilan Rubin picked up a guitar. Musicians trading jobs mid show and pulling it off is my favorite kind of showing off.

Aurora was dedicated to Taylor Hawkins, and by every account in the room that was the moment the whole stadium felt it. Some songs are just songs. That one is a member of the band forever.
The encore brought the tour debut of Baker Street, the Gerry Rafferty cover the band first recorded for the BBC back in 1997, then Hey, Johnny Park, then Everlong to close. Exhausted sat on the written setlist and never got played, which means Brisbane almost got 27.
Next stop is Townsville on Saturday, November 7, then Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, and Adelaide, with New Zealand and Perth waiting in January. Brisbane set the bar stupid high. Townsville, you are on the clock.
